Brides are getting bolder with their wedding looks, and that trend is apparent in the jewelry they’re choosing to wear on the big day.

Think oversized. Think ultra-sparkling. Think mixed media. Think colorful.

Think this trend is for you? Here are some tips for adding statement jewelry into your wedding day look.

First of all, consider your dress. A sleek, strapless dress with a simple neckline is perfect for showing off a statement necklace of layered strands, fabric flowers, feathers and big stones. If you choose an elaborate, beaded dress, the place to add that statement piece is in a bracelet or in your hair.

Consider your hairstyle. If you have short hair, wear statement earrings and a coordinating bracelet to balance your dress. If you have long hair and are wearing it up, also go big on the earrings. If your long hair will be down, step back the earrings a few notches and go for an attention-grabbing headband or hair clip, and choose a statement necklace, too.

Consider your body type. If you’re tall, you can complement your look with a statement necklace and add long strands of pearls; also choose a big bracelet. Petite brides will want to keep the jewelry close to the face and neckline. Statement necklaces and earrings will draw attention to your face and keep your look in proportion.

Consider your wedding theme. Celebrating like the Great Gatsby? Make your statement jewelry follow Art Deco style with beaded headpieces and headbands and Deco-style rhinestone jewelry.

If your wedding is vintage, make your statement jewelry sentimental – borrow pearls from your grandmas, bracelets, rings and earrings from other relatives, and layer them together for a unique look. Garden wedding? Add handmade silk flowers to your necklace and your hair. Beach weddings call for big and colorful jewelry in tropical colors and materials, like shells, beads and wood.

What will your statement jewelry be? We’d love to know!
